“Brazil After Bolsonaro. The comeback of Lula da Silva”. “A new chance for Lula” article written by Thomas Traumann

In September 2023, “Brazil after Bolsonaro: The Comeback of Lula da Silva” was released. It is the first foreign book on the 2022 elections and the prospects of Lula’s third presidential term. The book, published by Routledge Books and edited by veteran British journalist Richard Bourne – author of “Lula: do Brasil” and “Garibaldi in South America” –  brings a series of articles written by different specialists on Lula’s administration challenges on politics, race dynamics, foreign affairs, environmental issues, diplomacy etc.

Mr Traumann contributed with the opening chapter, “A new chance for Lula”, in which he outlines the PT leader’s profile, focusing on the 1160 days between his release from prison in Curitiba on November 2019, until the vandal attacks of January 8th, 2023.

The book also brings texts from authors such as Leslie Bethell, Oswaldo Martins Estanislau do Amaral, Marcus André Melo, André Regis de Carvalho, Edmund Amann, Paulo Jannuzzi, Eduardo Bueno, Gladys Mitchell-Walthour, Anthony Pereira, Renato Sergio de Lima, Rogerio Sottili, Juliana Bueno, Phillip M. Fearnside, Fiona Watson, Luísa Calvete Portela Barbosa, Nelson Franco Jobim and Luis Guillermo Solís Rivera, former Costa Rica President from 2014 to 2018.

The book is ideal for those who seek to deepen their understanding of Brazilian contemporary politics and get to know the context and the consequences of the transition from Jair Bolsonaro to Lula da Silva.
